A PASSION FOR HELPING FATHERS BECOME GREAT DADS

founder_imageI am Bob Hamrin, founder and President of Great Dads. For 38 years, I have found deep joy and fulfillment in being a father to my three children. I am the author of Great Dads – building loving, lasting relationships with your kids, and have been a guest on over 80 television and radio talk shows on the topic of fathering. .

I am deeply motivated by a desire to spread the joy of fathering to as many dads as possible and to help turn the hearts of fathers to their children. For nearly 19 years, I have committed myself to helping dads become Great Dads to their children through the international nonprofit Great Dads.

Professional Experience:

In my “previous life” as an economist, I served as an independent economic/business consultant, author and speaker from 1983-96. I served as a consultant to the World Bank, the National Association of Manufacturers, and a host of other corporations and organizations in the business, labor, environmental, media and government sectors. Before establishing my consulting practice, I served as a staff economist for the Joint Economic Committee of Congress, the Environmental Protection Agency, a Presidential Commission, and a U.S. Senator/Presidential candidate.  I am the author of seven books and have a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Wisconsin (1972).

Personal Life – Family Man and Men’s Leader

Though my professional work offered me considerable challenge and satisfaction, I have always found much deeper joy and fulfillment in being a father. I have also enjoyed working with and leading men in a variety of settings: co-leading a weekly men’s luncheon group on Capitol Hill for over ten years, counseling individually with men as to their role as husband and father, serving as a Deacon of Men’s Ministries at my former church, coaching basketball for 8 years, and founding and leading a Christian Economists’ Group in Washington, DC.

It has been my sheer delight to be married to Carol for 46 years.  For the past 32 years, we have lived in Clifton, VA.  Our three children — Eric, Krista, and Kira — are in their thirties.  My faith in God has been the solid foundation in my life since I was a small boy growing up in Chicago.  Carol and I currently attend Truro Anglican in Fairfax, VA.  I enjoy sports of all kinds — especially skiing (ended my 44 years of enjoyment just 4 years ago) and golf (been playing for 59 years).  Also love to travel, visiting 47 countries and all 50 states with Carol.
