Dr. Robert Hamrin, Chairman
Dr. Robert Hamrin is the founder and President of Great Dads, an international nonprofit organization that presents seminars which train fathers to be great dads to their kids and motivates them to turn their heart to their children. Over 54,000+ dads across America, Europe, Asia, Africa, India, and China have received this training in live seminars presented by Dr. Hamrin and his team of over 100 certified Associates.
Prior to founding Great Dads in 1996, Bob served (1983-1996) as an independent economic-business consultant, author and speaker. His clients included the World Bank, the National Association of Manufacturers, and a host of other corporations and organizations in the business, labor, environmental, media and government sectors. From 1974 to 1983, he served as a staff economist for the Joint Economic Committee of Congress, the EPA, a Presidential Commission, and a U.S. Senator in his Presidential candidacy.
Dr. Hamrin has written seven books and numerous published articles and has served as a professor at two universities. He holds a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Wisconsin. Bob and Carol, his bride of 49 years, live in Clifton, Virginia, are the parents of three adult children: Eric, Krista, and Kira, and worship at Truro Anglican in Fairfax, VA.
Tim has been an Air Force Junior ROTC instructor at Chantilly High School since 2006. There are 150 cadets in the program which focuses on teaching character development, servant leadership, followership, and teamwork.
Prior to this, Tim served as an Air Force meteorologist and retired from the Air Force in August 2006. His last assignment was a weather officer on the Air Staff at the Pentagon Before that, his roles included aircrew member, executive assistance, weather officer for US Army forces in germany, and at Air Force Weather Service Headquarters in Illinois. Tim was awarded his MS degree in meteorology from Saint Louis University in 1990.
Tim and his wife of 30 years Suzanne reside in Centreville, Virginia. The have two sons. They are actively involved in their local church where Tim serves as a Deacon.
Dr. Jack Elwood – Treasurer
Jack brings over 35 years of ministry experience to the Board. He currently serves as the Executive Director – Heal Africa USA. Before that he served as the CEO of Avant Ministries in Kansas City MO. He has served for many years in the Washington, DC. area with the Washington Area Coalition of Men’s Ministries.
He began his ministry in Taiwan, serving 14 years as a University professor and missionary with the Navigators. The following 15 years he served as a pastor at Euzoa Bible Church in Steamboat Springs, CO, Burke Community Church in Burke, VA, Immanuel Bible Church in Springfield, VA, and Granada Heights Friends Church in La Mirada, CA. The National Coalition of Men’s Ministry selected him as Pastor of the Year for 2007.
Jack received a B.A degree in Business Administration from Point Loma Nazarene University in San Diego, CA and an M.A in T.E.S.O.L from William Carey International University in Pasadena, CA, and a Doctor of Missiology from BIOLA University in La Mirada, CA. Jack and his wife Joan have been married for 40 years, have four adult children and 9 grandchildren, and worship at All Peoples Community Church in Fairfax, VA.
Micah has been in law enforcement for eight years. He currently serves as a Residence Life Resource Officer with the Virginia Tech Police Department.
While Micah was born in the United States, soon after his parents moved to China where they were aid workers for many years. He spent his teen years in Roanoke, Virginia when his family moved back to the United States. He met his future wife at George Mason University, and lived in Northern Virginia for about ten years, before moving to Southwest Virginia to be closer to family, to help raise their children.
Married in 2011, Kelsey and Micah have been blessed with seven children. They attend Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Christiansburg, Virginia.
Dr. Gary Yagel
Gary is executive director of Forging Bonds of Brotherhood (www.forgingbonds.org) , a non-profit ministry that helps churches better disciple men. He is an ordained pastor in the Presbyterian Church in America, where he serves as the denomination’s men’s ministry coach and spends most weekends leading men’s seminars and retreats. He is a visiting professor at Reformed Theological Seminary, D.C. where he teaches a course entitled “Making Missional Disciples.”
Gary began his ministry as a volunteer Young Life leader in State College High School, while he was a student at Penn State. He worked several years at the Department of Labor before attending Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary where he received his MDiv. He returned to the DC area to serve four years as a youth pastor before moving to Gaithersburg to plant Shady Grove Presbyterian Church. In 2002 he left church planting to begin his current ministry and in 2012 received his DMin from Reformed Theological Seminary, Orlando, where his thesis was on the topic reaching the heart of a man.
Gary has been married to his wife, Sandy 37 years and has five adult children and two grandchildren. Getting to occasionally teach the Great Dads Seminar is one of the favorite parts of his ministry.and has a long history of active service in many aspects of church teaching, planning and governance.
Ben Osterhaus – Secretary
Ben Osterhaus is the owner of Brand Army, a branding, advertising and design studio based outside of Washington, D.C. Prior to starting Brand Army in 2012, Ben spent 10 years in the branding and advertising field working with clients on projects ranging from international advertising campaigns to national brand development to regional design efforts with specific target audiences.
His primary focus is to create engaging brand and advertising experiences based on the unique characteristics and stories of the organizations he works with—ultimately increasing awareness, engagement and position among their specific audiences.
He has been the recipient of 13 international design awards which includes his work for Chick-fil-A, George Mason University, the United Nations Foundation, the USO and HEKA Energy Drink. Ben and his wife Jamie have been married for 11 years and have two young children. They currently live in Aldie, VA and attend New Life Christian Church.
